This course is designed to provide English majors with basic knowledge of semantics in terms of word meaning and sentence meaning, with which students can develop their capacity for deep understanding and skills in linguistic meaning analysis. This is one of the courses which helps students to combine their knowledge of English with their technical knowledge and develop their four skills through varied activities. Authentic reading and listening passages from a wide variety of sources, and a large range of topics, e.g. basic electric electricity, electric circuits, electric motors, electronics in the home, data transmission, and many more will not only enlarge students’ knowledge of electrics and electronics but increase their technical terms as well. The emphasis of the course is on learning how to read technical texts dealing with electrical and electronic engineering and to read and describe diagrams, graphs, electrical and electronic values of components, etc. The course fosters students’ capability of independence in employing the available sources recommended to develop their technical English and working in technical English fields.

Listening-Speaking 2 is designed to aid English majors of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education to progress toward intermediate level of listening and speaking skills (level B1). The meaningful activities, such as presentation, simulation, debate, research, and public announcement create more opportunities for students to practice speaking skills as well as to be more creative. Moreover, academic skills like deduction, summary, note-taking and doing test are applied to help students familiarized with strategies in examinations.
