Overview

This ESP course is to enable students to widen their knowledge and improve their communication skills in the field of environmental technology. The course provides a variety of learning activities and facilitates different learning strategies to help students achieve the goals. Particularly, students are exposed to authentic texts and oral language in technical situations relevant to environmental science, atmosphere, ecosystem, water pollution, noise pollution, air pollution and solid waste. Specific reading skills to be nurtured include dealing with technical texts and reading diagrams. Lifelong learning skills are promoted throughout classroom activities.

Overview

This course further develops students’ proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in technical English environment, specifically English for mechanical engineering. It also enhances their accuracy in grammar and structures and provides them with terminology related to mechanical engineering. Students will have opportunities to approach such mechanical readings as material properties, lubricants, machine tools, measurements, etc. as well as to discuss and give presentations about them.  Emphasis is placed on broadening students’ knowledge of technical English and mechanical engineering and foster their capability in reading, communication and research activities to facilitate their future careers.

This course provides senior students with the opportunity to practice English-Vietnamese, Vietnamese-English translation at companies in need, thereby having the opportunity to experience the real working environment and obtain job skills needed to expand career opportunities. During the process, students will observe the working process, conduct translation, report work, then learn to manage time effectively to meet job demands.
