Overview

This course further develops students’ proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in technical English environment, specifically English for mechanical engineering. It also enhances their accuracy in grammar and structures and provides them with terminology related to mechanical engineering. Students will have opportunities to approach such mechanical readings as material properties, lubricants, machine tools, measurements, etc. as well as to discuss and give presentations about them.  Emphasis is placed on broadening students’ knowledge of technical English and mechanical engineering and foster their capability in reading, communication and research activities to facilitate their future careers.

G1 Basic knowledge about mechanical engineering: basic machines, properties, applications and classification of materials, processes in the field of mechanical engineering (processes of design, adjustment, assembly, repair and maintenance); knowledge of specialized technical terms.
G2 Ability in reading, sumarizing and translating documents related to mechanical engineering; ability to present  English mechanical issues based on the ability to analyze and synthesize related documents
G3 Group presentation skills on mechanical engineering topics and communication skills.
G4 Ability to formulate ideas, develop and apply new knowledge and technology in translating and intepreting English documents in Mechanical engineering

G1 Explain a number of basic terminologies used in mechanical engineering.
Describe properties, applications, and categories of materials.and identify a number of procedures in the field of mechanical engineering such as design, adjustments, technical drawings, assembly, repairs and maintenance
Recognize a variety of machines, shapes, structures and features of machines, cars, and other components and tools. Explain the functions, operation principles, applications and importance of mechanical equipment, tools and components.
Interpret health and safety precautions and regulations, warning signs, and written instructions and notices
G2 Read, summarize and translate technical materials related to mechanical engineering in English.
Present mechanical issues in English by analyzing and synthesizing relevant documents.
G3 Discuss and assign tasks in groups to present topics related to mechanical field.
Develop communicative skills via learning activities.
G4 Formulate positive attitude towards learning English for mechanical engineering and technial English: self-self-researching, selecting, using images and documents on the internet in English-Vietnamese and Vietnamese-English translation in the era of globalization.
