During the last two decades of establishment and development, Faculty of Foreign Languages (FFL) focused more on training activities in the first years and expanded its activities on research and community services afterwards. FFL has so far successfully designed and provided three undergraduate programs. FFL will continue to offer more programs to meet the future demands of the labour market. The conference series on Language Teaching and Learning Today (LTLT) is a regular international event which has attracted academics and stakeholders from different corners of the world. In addition, FFL has organised a variety of community activities and extra-curriculum projects every year.
Curriculum Development
During the initial period of development, FFL primarily focused on program design and delivery, including course development, assessment scheme design, and learning monitoring procedures. These programs have then been updated frequently with the selective adoption of significant comments and feedback from the industry, alumni, lecturers, and experts of the fields. All three programs currently offered in a blended learning mode are built upon CDIO framework and have achieved remarkable success. New courses for every program continue to be developed and added to the current programs, responsively reflecting emerging trends and demands from the labour market.
Research
Over the last 12 years, FFL has remarkably increased and diversified its research activities, including conducting research projects, organizing conferences, and holding seminars and workshops. Many FFL lecturers have actively participated and presented their research in both local and international conferences. The number of research projects and publications has also increased. FFL research interests range from teaching methodology, linguistics, and technology-enhanced language learning to learning motivation, learning strategies, and learner autonomy. The LTLT conference series attracts hundreds of local and international academics every year. It is well recognized by the academic community and remarkably contributes to the teaching and learning practices at FFL.
Community Outreach
FFL always emphasizes on taking responsibility for serving community service. FFL, in collaboration with Labour Union and other social groups, has organized various social and charity activities. Particularly, FFL frequently provides financial support to disadvantaged students, children, and the elderly in nursing homes. FFL also regularly offers free-of-charge English short courses to the local community and held big events such as Spelling Bee or summer camps.
