Department of Translation and Interpretation was formed from the former Department of Language Theory which was in operation from 2007 to 2019. It is also seen as resulting from the 10-year curriculum development plan (2020-2030) of the Faculty of Foreign Languages. The Department administers the translation and interpretation training program in the Faculty.

PERSONNEL

Department of Translation and Interpretation is currently staffed by teachers of Linguistics and English Language Teaching Methodology. The number of PhD degree holders is estimated to reach 3 by 2021 and to increase in the years to follow.

TEACHING

The curriculum was commenced in 2016, which integrated Translation Studies, Linguistics and knowledge related to specific subject areas. The curriculum was rewritten in the 2018-2019 school-year in an effort to better accommodate translation and interpretation as a profession and to use authentic materials taken from the working industry.

RESEARCHING

Our Department sees translation and its interaction with other linguistics-related fields as potential research topics. The Department is also adopting project-based learning, e-learning, among others, in addition to the existing more conventional classroom practices. Our teaching staffs have had opportunities to present their papers at conferences at different levels, and some have their articles published in academic journals

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

Looking to the future, the Department will be striving to make itself in better alignment with diversified needs and the ever-changing demands of the translation and interpretation industry.
