The course provides basic concepts about British and American literature and some typical literacy work. By lecturing, students apply their knowledge of British and American history and society to analyze and understand the literacy work. During the course, students enhance their understanding by playing roles, discussing and writing an essay.

This course further develops students’ proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in technical English environment, specifically English for mechanical engineering. It also enhances their accuracy in grammar and structures and provides them with terminology related to mechanical engineering. Students will have opportunities to approach such mechanical readings as material properties, lubricants, machine tools, measurements, etc. as well as to discuss and give presentations about them.  Emphasis is placed on broadening students’ knowledge of technical English and mechanical engineering and foster their capability in reading, communication and research activities to facilitate their future careers.
