Overview

 

Translation Theories provide students with basic principles in the field of translation types of translation-interpreting, methods and techniques of translation, the difference between translations English-Vietnamese and Vietnamese-English. In addition, the module also provides learners with an overview of the general concepts and information on translation history, translation and interpreting, and practical exercises. By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to apply translation theories into practice translation and interpretation, and promote their passion for translating.

This course is designed to provide students with talks and lectures about academic and social and natural science topics, and opportunities to discuss/debate follow-up issues. Simultaneously, they can sharpen their critical thinking skills which help them to reason, analyze, synthesize, evaluate, debate, and solve problems. Besides, they have a chance to widen their knowledge of advanced vocabulary, pronunciation, and functional language, which can be used to enhance their English accuracy and fluency in group discussions, debates, informative presentations, proposal presentations, persuasive presentations, negotiations, and conflict management. The course also helps improve such important study skills as working in groups, note-taking, and comprehending long lectures, as well as test-taking skills. Overview

The course of Reading 4 is designed to enable English-majored students to obtain academic reading skills at low-advanced level (equivalent to B2+ - CEFR). Particularly, students are provided with critical reading skills as well as sub-skills through intensive and extensive reading. Reading and thinking critically through authentic readings are also included. Moreover, strategies for taking Reading section of TOEFL and IELTS tests are introduced over the units so that students are familiarized with these international standardized tests. The course also helps students develop their learning autonomy as well as their teamwork skills.

This course is designed for HCMUTE English majored students at upper-intermediate level to achieve low-advanced level (equivalent to B2 –CEFR) in listening and speaking. It really reflects a thoroughly integrated academic listening and speaking spectrum. The purposeful integration of critical thinking and an enhanced focus on academic skills such as making inferences, analysing, synthesizing, problem-solving, note-taking and test-taking helps students develop strategies for success in the classroom and on standardized tests. Besides, the productive tasks in the course can galvanize content, language and critical thinking skills.
