HCMUTE has announced the grant funding scheme for disadvantaged students in the second semester of the academic year 2021-2022.

There are two categories in the grant funding scheme, one for general disadvantaged students, and one for students with severe financial hardship.

The grant for general disadvantaged students is VND 3 million/case, which is funded to students whose family is certified by the government as a near-poor household in 2022.

Other students whose families are certified by the local government to have the average monthly per capita income of no more than VND 1.5 million in rural areas or no more than VND 2 million in urban areas can also apply for this grant, if, sadly, they are paternal or maternal orphans or have a parent suffering from an incurable disease and in need of financial support for treatment (evidence required).

The higher grant (VND 6 million/case) is funded to students who falls into one of the following groups:

  1. Students whose family is certified by the government as a poor household in 2022.
  2. Students whose families are certified by the local government to have the average monthly per capita income of no more than VND 1.5 million in rural areas or no more than VND 2 million in urban areas; and either:
  • They have lost a parent and the other parent is unable to work to generate income for the family;
  • Or their parents are both terminally ill and need money for treatment (evidence required);
  • Or their family has just had a life-changing event such as an accident or illness leading to financial difficulties in the school year 2021-2022.

One common criterion for the grant applicants is that their GPA must be 5.0 or above (10-mark scale) in the first semester of the AY 2021-2022. Due to limited budget, students who suffer from similar hardship but have higher GPA will be prioritized for the grant.

Those who are already given 100% tuition exemption are not eligible for the 6-million category.

Students who are eligible should submit their application and evidence to the faculty office (Room 601, Building F1) by 15 April 2022 for review process.
