In the morning of November 11th, 2016, the seminar on evaluating the 150-credit curriculum of TESOL Studies was organised by Faculty of Foreign Languages (FFL) at HCMUTE.

It was FFL’s honor to welcome Dr. Phuong Nguyen, Head of Academic Affairs, HCMUTE, to the seminar. Besides, there were around 10 entrepreneurs and language centre representatives who have recruited FFL alumni. Especially, some graduates of 2012 academic year (K-12), FFL’s very first students, also attended.

Dr. Phuong Nguyen stated that the seminar was an opportunity for businesses, alumni and HCMUTE to evaluate the 150-credit curriculum in order to make proper adjustment and supplement in the future.

In her general comments about the curriculum, a K-12 alumnus expressed her appreciation to the content of the TESOL program. Specifically, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thien Nhien who works for Uc Chau language centre claimed that the training program did provide students with necessary language and career skills. She emphasized the importance of teaching methodology courses, teaching practice and general knowledge about Technical English. She also suggested some adjustment for Testing and Assessment course and talked about the opportunities for senior students to experience teaching kids and English for Specific Purposes.

Sharing the same idea, Ms. Pham Thanh Phuong advised that after graduating, graduates should experience some professions to determine their passion and strength for the best career development.

After these personal comments, Dr. Dang Tan Tin conducted a lively discussion with the participation of the Faculty Board, business representatives, alumni and FFL lecturers. At the end of the discussion, a variety of valuable comments were recorded, aiming to refine and perfect the TESOL curriculum managed by FFL.

Since 2012, the 150-credit training program has been annually ameliorated to meet the quality requirements of the university and society. With the success of the seminar, the TESOL program of FFL is about to show some positive changes and greatly contribute to the well-educated workforce in Technical English teaching field.
