In the context of integration, cultural understanding is one of the keys to success. British and American Civilization course helps students (1) be aware of the importance of cultural understanding in the current social-economic situation, (2) obtain the basic knowledge of people and country of United Kingdom and United State through presentations, discussions about geography, history, politics and education, etc. (3) develop reading, analyzing, evaluating skills, and studying social-cultural issues in comparison with Vietnamese culture. Thereby, students not only know the process of formation and development of the two countries but also understand unique features of their population and daily behaviors.

This ESP course is to enable students to widen their knowledge and improve their communication skills in the field of environmental technology. The course provides a variety of learning activities and facilitates different learning strategies to help students achieve the goals. Particularly, students are exposed to authentic texts and oral language in technical situations relevant to environmental science, atmosphere, ecosystem, water pollution, noise pollution, air pollution and solid waste. Specific reading skills to be nurtured include dealing with technical texts and reading diagrams. Lifelong learning skills are promoted throughout classroom activities. 

This is one of the courses which helps students to combine their knowledge of English with their technical knowledge and develop their four skills through varied activities. Authentic reading and listening passages from a wide variety of sources, and a large range of topics, e.g. basic electric electricity, electric circuits, electric motors, electronics in the home, data transmission, and many more will not only enlarge students’ knowledge of electrics and electronics but increase their technical terms as well. The emphasis of the course is on learning how to read technical texts dealing with electrical and electronic engineering and to read and describe diagrams, graphs, electrical and electronic values of components, etc. The course fosters students’ capability of independence in employing the available sources recommended to develop their technical English and working in technical English fields.

The course is to provide English major sophomores with comprehensive knowledge about information technology in terms of computer, operating system, hard ware, soft ware, data transmission, computer network, multi-media, network safety and data security. In addition, this course aims at enhancing students’ English communication ability in technical contexts and offering students opportunities to develop translation and interpretation skills which are of neccessity for their future career.
