Keynote Speaker: Dr. Mahani Mokhtar, University of Technology, Malaysia
Dr. Mahani Mokhtar is a senior lecturer at Faculty of Education, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). At present, she holds a post as Head of Department, Department of Educational Foundations and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education, UTM. As a TESL graduate, Dr. Mahani had the experience working as an English teacher in three secondary schools in Malaysia since 1993. She joined Faculty of Education, UTM in 2005 with Masters in Education (Education and Development) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Dr. Mahani later graduated with Doctoral Degree in Education from University of Bristol, United Kingdom in 2011. Aside from research and teaching, Dr. Mahani is also involved in implementing and promoting Service Learning as one of teaching and learning approaches in UTM New Academia Learning Innovations (NALI). She and her colleagues have contributed a chapter on Service Learning in UTM NALI Guidebook. The team also conducts workshops to lecturers in UTM and is frequently invited to other higher institutions in Malaysia as trainers of Service Learning. Moreover, Faculty of Education organised International Service Learning Program in 2016 with students from Universitas Teknologi Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Dr. Mahani will share her experience in conducting Service Learning in Faculty of Education and the benefits of the program to enhance 21st century skills among TESL undergraduates in UTM.
Invited Speaker: Assoc. Prof. Ho Pham, Van Hien University
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Vu Phi Ho is currently Dean of Faculty of Foreign Languages & Cultures, Van Hien University. He used to be coordinator of MA program in TESOL at HCMC Open University. In 2014, Pham-Ho worked at Gyeongju University, South Korea as an Assistant Professor. Pham-Ho has so far published 21 research articles on both local and International Journals, and 5 books of which two are course-books for undergraduate program at HCMC OU. Pham-Ho is the Vice President for Administrative Affairs of the AsiaCALL and an editorial member of its Online Journal. He is also a peer reviewer for the English Language Teaching Journal (ELT Journal) in Canada, Journal of English Linguistics Research (Sciedu Press, Canada). His main interests include Academic Writing, Theories of Learning, and Technology-enhanced learning.
Invited Speaker: Dr. Thao Tran, HCMC University of Technology and Education
Dr. Tran Quoc Thao is currently a lecturer of English Linguistics at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, Vietnam. He obtained his PhD in English Language Studies from Suranaree University of Technology, Thailand. His research areas of interest are mainly in co-teaching in ELT, EFL teaching methodology, intercultural communicative competence in ELT, and language learning strategies.
Invited Speaker: Dr. Phuong Le, Ba Ria Vung Tau University
Lan Phuong Le has got a fourteen-year-experience of teaching English as Foreign Language, especially English for Specific Purposes (ESP), at Vietnamese universities. Her PhD thesis conducted in Queensland University of Technology, Australia was about aligning the ESP curricula in Vietnamese universities with workplace communication needs. Phuong is currently the Dean of Faculty of English language, School of Languages, Cultures and International Relations, Ba Ria-Vung Tau University. Her research interests include ESP teaching and learning, curriculum development, professional communication, corpus analysis, lexical analysis, and vocabulary teaching and learning.
