Overview

This course is designed for HCMUTE English majored students at upper-intermediate level to achieve low-advanced level (equivalent to B2 –CEFR) in listening and speaking. It really reflects a thoroughly integrated academic listening and speaking spectrum. The purposeful integration of critical thinking and an enhanced focus on academic skills such as making inferences, analysing, synthesizing, problem-solving, note-taking and test-taking helps students develop strategies for success in the classroom and on standardized tests. Besides, the productive tasks in the course can galvanize content, language and critical thinking skills. During the course, the employment of the structured approach, task-based activities and student-centered instructions provides students opportunities for extended and creative oral practice, for example, presentations, simulations, debates, case studies and public service announcements. To help reinforce this, a focus on speaking to persuade is also included, enabling students to design, prepare and deliver a persuasive speech effectively and confidently.
