Overview

This ESP course is to enable students to widen their knowledge and improve their communication skills in the field of environmental technology. The course provides a variety of learning activities and facilitates different learning strategies to help students achieve the goals. Particularly, students are exposed to authentic texts and oral language in technical situations relevant to environmental science, atmosphere, ecosystem, water pollution, noise pollution, air pollution and solid waste. Specific reading skills to be nurtured include dealing with technical texts and reading diagrams. Lifelong learning skills are promoted throughout classroom activities. 

Objectives

Goals Goal description
G1 Terminology and general knowledge of Environmental Engineering such as biosphere, ecology, atmosphere, pollution and pollution management, solid waste and solid waste management.
G2 Ability to analyze and explain some phenomena in the environment, such as: ozone depletion, acid rain, greenhouse effect and pollution management process.
G3 Team-work and communication skills, and ability to comprehend Environmental document written in English.
Group presentation skills on topics relaled to Environmental technology.
G4 Ability to formulate ideas, develop and apply new knowledge and technology in translating and intepreting English documents in Environmental technology.

G1 List out layers of atmosphere, groups of biosphere, types of energy and solid waste. 
Present environmental problems, treatment and management.
G2 Explain the reasons and processes of environmental problems, such as ozone depletion, acid rain, greenhouse effect.
Describe waste water treatment and solid waste management processes
G3 Work well in group to perform different tasks related to Environmental problems, phenomena.
Translate documents of Environmental Technology at basic level.
G4 Formulate positive attitude towards English and Business in the era of globalization.
Design the procedure of translating,  intepreting, editing, correcting as well as evaluating translated documents in the field of English for Environmental Technology.
