In collaboration with RELO Vietnam, it is our great pleasure to warmly invite you to join us for a three-hour workshop designed to elevate your English instruction through the integration of music in the classroom. Led by the esteemed Mr. Jason R. Levine, a TESOL expert and accomplished content creator, this workshop will provide participants with innovative strategies to incorporate music into English lessons. Attendees will explore rhymes, songs, and the rich tradition of African-American music, gaining practical techniques to enhance student engagement and language proficiency. This workshop is open to teachers, lecturers, and pedagogy students from HCMUTE and other educational institutions. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped with effective methods to captivate students and enrich their learning experience through music.
Facilitator
Mr. Levine has over 25 years of experience as an English teacher, teacher trainer, and materials writer. He has led student workshops and teacher training programs based on the songs and videos he creates as Fluency MC in Europe, the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East. After earning a master's degree in TESOL from Hunter College (City University of New York), Mr. Levine became the director of curriculum development at Embassy English. In 2002, he co-founded a business English and TOEFL preparation school in New York City. He has taught courses in the MA TESOL program at The New School and worked as a trainer and consultant at Linguaid. In 2013, he created and launched ELT Techniques, the first live MOOC for English language teachers.

The workshop drew approximately 60 lecturers and students. The workshop’s goal was to equip participants with strategies for utilizing musical elements in language teaching, thereby enhancing both the engagement and effectiveness of the learning process.
The workshop’s key feature was Mr. Levine’s introduction to hip-hop culture, allowing participants to gain a deeper understanding of this genre’s influence. Moreover, he also skillfully employed rap songs as teaching pronunciation techniques and illustrated how rhythm and rhyme can reinforce vocabulary retention.
In a dynamic learning atmosphere, Mr. Levine presented various musical activities as not only ice-breakers but also as means to enhance language acquisition. The participants were deeply involved, raising intriguing questions throughout the session. Mr. Levine’s vibrant energy and enthusiasm significantly contributed to the workshop interactive atmosphere.
As the event concluded, certificates were distributed to the participants, symbolizing the successful and fruitful culmination of the workshop.
Throughout the workshop, music’s integral role in cultural expression and its beneficial impact on cognitive development were emphasized. It is anticipated that the event has imparted both inspiration and instructive lessons to all contributors.
