For nearly five years, the Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam has been a key partner in the professional development of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE). RELO has consistently provided expert-led training and development programs for both English language instructors and students.

Building on this successful partnership, on April 2, 2025, the Faculty welcomed Mr. Shidaun Campbell, a RELO specialist, to conduct a workshop on integrating drama and artificial intelligence (AI) into oral skills instruction for approximately 70 lecturers and English major students.

Expert insights and engaging techniques

Mr. Campbell, with over 16 years of experience in English language teaching, teacher training, and curriculum design, shared valuable insights and practical teaching techniques. He focused on empowering learners to build confidence and deliver emotionally resonant messages.

Interactive learning: the "Read – Personalize – Glance" method

Participants experienced the "Read – Personalize – Glance" method firsthand, alternating between the roles of instructor and learner. This interactive approach provided a clear understanding of the method's benefits and challenges.

The workshop was highly dynamic, with active participation from both lecturers and students. Third and fourth-year English majors enthusiastically practiced the techniques, shared their learning experiences, and received personalized guidance from Mr. Campbell.
